| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a large crowned quartered coat of arms of Philip II of Spain, supported by elaborate foliate and scroll mantling on either side. The shield displays the heraldic quarters of Castile, León, Aragon, and other Iberian territories, surmounted by an imperial crown of arched form. The entire device is rendered in the vigorous late Renaissance style characteristic of Netherlandish hammered coinage. A beaded inner circle frames the central device, with the Latin legend distributed around the outer field between the beaded border and a second raised rim. |
