| Reverse description | Central device consisting of a floriated cross patée composed of four crowned Burgundian lions arranged in saltire, their tails intertwined at the centre, with fleurs-de-lis filling the angles between the arms of the cross. A small crowned shield of Overijssel appears at the top of the field, with the date 1578 divided across the upper portion of the field. A beaded inner border separates the central device from the circumferential Latin legend PACE ET IVSTITIA 1578 16 S S, denoting the denomination of sixteen stuivers and the provincial motto 'Peace and Justice'. The overall composition is characteristic of the Statendaalder series struck in the name of Philip II by the rebellious States during the early phase of the Dutch Revolt. |
