Obverse description Central shield bearing a displayed eagle, the arms of the city of Deventer, surmounted by a mailed knight or armored figure facing left and brandishing a sword, flanked by elaborate foliate mantling. A beaded inner circle frames the central device, while the circular Latin legend runs along the outer periphery. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan and bold, high-relief die work typical of Dutch provincial hammered coinage of the early seventeenth century.
