Obverse description Central field displays the crowned Portuguese royal arms — the escutcheon bearing the quinas (five shields in cross formation, each charged with five bezants) enclosed within a bordure of castles — surmounted by an open royal crown. The denomination numeral 200 appears prominently to the right of the shield in the field. The circular Latin legend IOANNES IIII D G REX PORTVGALIE runs along the periphery, separated from the central design by an inner beaded border. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan and bold relief typical of hammered silver coinage of the period.
