Obverse description Central field bearing the crowned Portuguese royal coat of arms, depicting the escutcheon of Portugal with five bezants arranged in a cross (the quinas) within a bordure of castles, surmounted by a royal crown of elaborate Gothic form. The shield is flanked on either side by the denomination numeral 200 in the field. A circular Latin legend surrounds the entire design, with a beaded inner border. The strike is characteristic of hammered coinage, resulting in an irregular planchet with uneven distribution of detail.
