Obverse description Equestrian effigy of King James I facing right, the king depicted in armour brandishing a sword aloft in his right hand, mounted on a caparisoned horse in full stride. The elaborate saddle cloth bears a shield charged with the royal arms. A beaded inner circle frames the central design, with the Latin legend running continuously around the outer field between beaded borders.

Reverse description A large quartered royal shield of arms, surmounted by a decorative floral crown, displaying the arms of England and France quarterly in the first and fourth quarters, Scotland in the second quarter, and Ireland in the third quarter, with an escutcheon of the arms of France ancient overall. The shield is flanked by elaborate scroll cartouche work. The Latin motto legend runs continuously around the outer field between beaded borders.
