Reverse description The quartered royal shield of arms, bearing the arms of England, Scotland, and Ireland, is displayed centrally and flanked on either side by a crowned royal cypher 'GVI' in monogram form, as designed by George Kruger Gray. The legend FID: DEF: (Fidei Defensor, Defender of the Faith) arcs above the shield, while the denomination HALF CROWN and the date appear below. The entire design is contained within a beaded inner border, with the arms rendered in fine heraldic detail characteristic of mid-twentieth-century British coinage.
