The portrait is the fourth definitive effigy as used on St. Helena coinage. The East India Company's modern incarnation — a luxury goods brand revived in 2010 under Indian ownership — has issued commemorative coins under its historic name since the mid-2010s, exploiting the legal continuity of the original royal charter. This piece marks the 250th anniversary of Wellington's birth in 1769. The Duke commanded British forces in India from 1797 to 1805, where his campaigns in Mysore and the Second Anglo-Maratha War established his military reputation well before Waterloo.
