Obverse description The traditional Irish cláirseach (Gaelic harp), modelled on the medieval Brian Boru harp, is depicted upright and in fine detail at the centre of the field, its strings rendered with precision. The date is divided by the harp's forepillar, with the first two digits to the left and the last two to the right. The circular legend SAORSTÁT ÉIREANN (Irish Free State) runs along the periphery in Gaelic script, separated by the harp. A beaded border frames the entire design.
