The arms are flanked on either side by the inscriptions ESSAI and BRONZE in the field, and the entire device is encircled by a wreath of laurel and olive branches tied at the base. A beaded inner border frames the central composition, with the peripheral legend REINA DE LAS ESPAÑAS above and MEDIO CENTIMO DE ESCUDO below, and the mintmaster initials OM visible beneath the shield.
