| Obverse description | Diademed and draped bust of Queen Victoria facing left, her hair elegantly swept back and secured with a ornate tiara and pearl-decorated hairpin. The effigy, engraved by William Wyon in the young head portrait style, displays finely detailed hair tresses and a ribbon tied at the nape of the neck. The legend VICTORIA to the left and QUEEN to the right flanks the portrait in upright Latin lettering along the inner border. A fine toothed border encircles the entire obverse field. |

| Reverse description | Central field bears the four-line inscription HALF CENT / INDIA / STRAITS / 1862 in bold, widely-spaced serif capital letters. The date 1862 appears at the base, above a floral spray where the two olive branches meet and are tied together. The entire inscription is framed by a wreath of olive branches, their stems bound at the base, with berried sprigs visible among the foliage. A fine toothed border encircles the reverse field. |
