Obverse description Laureate bust of Queen Victoria facing left, her hair elegantly braided and gathered at the nape with a ribbon, wearing a drapery at the shoulder. The effigy is rendered in high relief in the classic Wyon style. The circular legend reads VICTORIA D:G: BRITT:REG:F:D: around the upper periphery, with the truncation of the bust resting near the lower rim of the field.

The central device is encircled by a wreath composed of mayflowers, the floral emblem of Nova Scotia.
