| Reverse description | Central design features a crossed arrangement of symbolic attributes: a trident (alluding to maritime dominion), a caduceus with entwined serpent and winged staff (representing commerce), and a fasces or torch, rendered in high relief against a plain field. The denomination 1/2 CENT is inscribed along the upper legend, while 2 1/2 and BiT appear in the lower left and lower right fields respectively, flanking the central emblems. The engraver's initials G.I. appear at the bottom of the field below the crossed devices. The composition is allegorical, referencing trade and sea power appropriate to a colonial currency. |
