| Obverse description | Central device comprising the heraldic shield of the British North Borneo Chartered Company, depicting a rampant lion passant on a dotted field in the upper canton and a proa (traditional sailing vessel) under sail on a horizontally-lined sea in the lower canton. The shield is flanked by elaborate foliate and scrollwork mantling, with a wreath of leaves at the base. The Heaton Mint mark 'H' appears immediately below the shield, and the date in large numerals occupies the lower field beneath the mint mark. The entire design is framed by a milled border of fine dentils. |
