Obverse description Central field dominated by the quartered arms of Bologna surmounted by a papal tiara and crossed keys, the heraldic shield displaying the traditional Bolognese charges. The arms are framed by an elaborate foliate or beaded inner border, with the circular Latin legend BONONIA DOCET running along the outer periphery. The die-work is characteristic of late 17th-century Italian hammered coinage, exhibiting bold but somewhat irregular relief. The coin's flan is notably irregular in shape, consistent with hand-struck production at the Bologna mint.
