| Obverse description | Central field occupied by the papal coat of arms of Clement X (Emilio Altieri), displaying a shield semé of eight-pointed stars arranged in rows, surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys of Saint Peter, the whole supported by elaborate foliate and scrollwork mantling. The shield is framed within an ovate cartouche with ornate Baroque decorative elements. The encircling Latin legend reads CLEMENS · X · P · M · A, denoting Clemens X, Pontifex Maximus, with the regnal year indicator, separated by star ornaments. The coin is struck on an irregular flan characteristic of hammered coinage of the period. |
