Venezuela's silver fractional coinage of this period was struck at the Philadelphia Mint under wartime contract, as the country lacked domestic minting capacity. The 1944–1946 dates fall squarely within the dictatorship of Isaías Medina Angarita, who was himself ousted in a military coup in October 1945 — meaning coins dated 1946 were issued under the junta that replaced him.
