| Obverse description | Central shield bearing the arms of Castile surmounted by a royal crown, with mint marks 'A' and 'P' flanking the shield in the field. The circular legend reads +PHILIPPUS+V+D+G+ around the periphery within a milled border. A large irregular trefoil-shaped central cutout has been applied to the host coin as part of the Martinique countermark process, partially obscuring the lower portion of the shield. |
