Obverse description Right-facing bust of Emperor Menelik II occupying the central field, depicted wearing a traditional Ethiopian royal cap (kufiya) with elaborate brocade patterning and a draped cloak fastened at the collar. The emperor's full beard and strong features are rendered in high relief with fine engraving detail. A Ge'ez circular legend surrounds the effigy, with the word 'ITOFIA' (Ethiopia) inscribed in the lower exergue. The entire design is contained within a toothed border.
