| Reverse description | The crowned heraldic shield of Carinthia (Kärnten) occupies the central field, surmounted by a prominent crown. The Latin legend for 'Archidux Carinthiae' (Archduke of Carinthia) runs between two concentric beaded circles, commencing at 2 o'clock, with a rosette serving as a divider. The design reflects the armorial style typical of early sixteenth-century Austrian regional coinage produced under Maximilian I. |

Maximilian I convened the St. Veit mint in Carinthia specifically to service the monetary needs of his southeastern territories, where Hungarian and Venetian coins had long dominated small commerce. The half Batzen denomination was central to his broader currency reform effort — an attempt to impose coherent, empire-wide denominations on a monetary system that was, in practice, a patchwork of regional habits. Maximilian died in January 1519, and the St. Veit operation contracted sharply under his successors, making the production window for this type exceptionally narrow.
