| Obverse description | Central shield bearing the rampant bear of Appenzell, depicted in profile facing left with raised forepaws, rendered in baroque style and flanked by decorative scrollwork volutes. The shield is of pointed form with the bear occupying the full field. The circumferential Latin legend reads MONETA REIP. APPENZELLENSIS, separated at the base by two small star ornaments. A beaded inner border separates the central device from the legend, and the coin exhibits a reeded outer rim. |

| Reverse description | The denomination 1/2 BATZEN appears in two lines within a plain recessed circle, with the date 1738 inscribed below, flanked by two pellets. The inner circle is surrounded by an elaborate baroque border of alternating floral rosettes, scrollwork, and foliate ornaments arranged symmetrically around the full circumference. A reeded outer rim frames the entire design, consistent with the obverse treatment. |
