Obverse description Central field depicts the arms of Konstanz: a large ornamented wheel (the city's heraldic emblem) rendered in relief within a beaded inner circle. The wheel's spokes and rim are clearly articulated in the hammered style typical of early seventeenth-century German municipal coinage. Surrounding the central device, the circular legend reads MONETA NOVA CONSTAN in Latin capital letters, interrupted by decorative stops. The overall design is characteristic of the civic coinage produced by the imperial free city of Konstanz during the Thirty Years' War period.
