Obverse description Central field occupied by the heraldic shield of Cardinal Annibale Albani, surmounted by the papal umbrella (umbraculum) and the crossed keys of Saint Peter, the traditional emblems of the Sede Vacante authority. The cardinal's arms are displayed on a baroque cartouche flanked by elaborate scrollwork. A circular Latin legend runs along the periphery within a beaded border, reading SEDE VACAN· MDCCXXXX, denoting the vacancy of the Holy See in 1740.
