| Reverse description | The Cross of the Military Order of Christ occupies the central field, its distinctive splayed form consistent with Portuguese colonial coinage of the early eighteenth century. The date is distributed at the four corners of the cross, with individual digits placed in each quadrant. On certain varieties, the numeral '2' appears beneath the cross, again referencing the local value of 2 Duganis. The strike is typical of hammered copper production, resulting in variable centration and surface definition across specimens. |
