Reverse description The reverse features a bold central cartouche with the denomination inscribed as INDIA / 1/2 / ANNA and the date 1940, all rendered in large interlocking characters within a shaped central panel. Surrounding the central panel are inscriptions in four regional Indian scripts denoting the equivalent value of two paise: Urdu (دو پیسہ) at the top, Devanagari (दो पैसा) at the left, Bengali (দুই পয়সা) at the right, and Telugu (రెండు పైసలు) at the bottom, separated by decorative wave-form borders. The overall design reflects the multilingual character of British India's coinage policy.
