Obverse description The obverse is an entirely typographic design within a plain field, bearing the denomination inscribed in two scripts arranged in three horizontal lines. The upper two lines carry the Latin legend HALF ANNA in bold raised lettering, while the lower line presents the equivalent Bengali inscription অর্দ্ধ আনা, meaning Half Anna. The design is unadorned, with no effigy, wreath, or decorative border, reflecting the utilitarian character of East India Company copper coinage. A finely toothed milled border frames the entire design.
