Obverse description Central circular raised field containing the Arabic legend naming the denomination and the royal epithet of King Mohammed Zahir Shah, rendered in a dense calligraphic script. The name 'افغانستان' (Afghanistan) appears prominently at the top of the coin above the central circle. A continuous Arabic legend reading 'المتوكل على الله محمد ظاهر شاه' (He Who Trusts in God, Mohammed Zahir Shah) runs around the lower periphery of the coin, flanking the central device. The overall design is flat and typographic, with no figural imagery, consistent with Islamic numismatic convention.
