Additional information

Amanullah Khan's 1928 coinage came at the worst possible moment for his reign. That same year he returned from a tour of Europe and Turkey visibly determined to push rapid Westernization — abolishing the veil, introducing co-education, wearing a suit in public. The conservative backlash was immediate and violent. By January 1929 he had abdicated and fled, making this among the last issues struck under his authority before the Barakzai dynasty's grip on Kabul collapsed entirely.
