| Obverse description | Central field occupied by the interlaced cursive royal cypher 'GR' (Georgius Rex) in high relief, surmounted by a Tudor-style crown at the top of the coin. The date 1796 is divided by the crown and arcs along the upper periphery. An olive or laurel wreath frames the central design on both sides, tied with a ribbon bow at the base, the whole composition set within a beaded border. |
