Obverse description Central crowned shield bearing the rampant lion of Holland, the beast depicted with sword raised and a bundle of arrows in its forepaw, rendered in high relief within a plain escutcheon surmounted by an ornate crown with floral finials. The denomination fraction 1/2 appears to the left of the shield and 3GL to the right, flanking the arms in the field. The circular legend, separated by pellets, reads MO · ARG · ORD · FÆD · BELG · HOLL · encircling the design, referencing the silver coinage of the federated provinces of the Netherlands, Holland. The entire design is contained within a finely milled border.
