Obverse description Central shield displaying the fourfold quartered arms of Saxe-Lauenburg, incorporating the distinctive charges of each constituent territory. Three crested helmets surmount the shield, adorned with elaborate mantling and crest devices. The ducal titles of Franz II (Francis II) are rendered in an abbreviated Latin legend encircling the entire design within a beaded border. The heraldic composition is executed in the robust, high-relief style characteristic of early seventeenth-century German hammered coinage.
