Chandrakanta Singha's reign was among the most turbulent in Ahom history — he was deposed, restored, and deposed again as Burmese forces systematically dismantled the kingdom during the Burma-Assam wars of the early nineteenth century. Coinage from this period was issued under severe political instability, and the fractional rupee denominations like this sixteenth were likely struck in limited quantities as the royal treasury diminished. The kingdom ceased to exist entirely when the British annexed Assam following the First Anglo-Burmese War in 1826.
