Obverse description Central field displays an elaborate intertwined ducal cypher composed of the conjoined initials of the co-ruling princes Christian Ernest and Francis Josias, rendered in a decorative baroque script. The cypher is surmounted by a princely crown. Below the cypher, the mintmaster's initials G.H.E. appear in the lower field. The circular Latin legend surrounding the design reads FVRST. SACHS. SAALFELD. MVNZ., denoting the princely Saxon Saalfeld mint authority. The coin is struck with a milled border.
