| Obverse description | The traditional Brunswick wild horse (Sachsenross) prancing to the left, depicted in high relief over a plain field with ground line below the hooves. The circular legend surrounding the device reads CARL HERZOG ZU BRAUNSCHW. U. L., identifying the ruling duke Charles II of Brunswick-Lüneburg. The design follows the longstanding heraldic tradition of the duchy, with the horse rendered in a naturalistic yet stylized manner characteristic of early nineteenth-century German coinage. |
