Adolphus Frederick IV ruled Mecklenburg-Strelitz from 1752 until his death in 1794, but these small silver fractions were struck only during the first seven years of his reign — a window that likely reflects shifting fiscal priorities rather than any shortage of silver. Mecklenburg-Strelitz was among the smallest and least economically significant of the German princely states, and its coinage output was correspondingly modest throughout the eighteenth century.
Kunzel 595 E/a places this among a tight cluster of documented die marriages for the type.
