Obverse description Central field dominated by an ornate crowned royal cipher comprising the interlaced initials AF (for Adolphus Frederick) in elaborate calligraphic script, surmounted by a ducal crown with prominent arched band and pearl-tipped points. The monogram is rendered in bold relief with decorative foliate flourishes extending from the letterforms. The date 1746 is inscribed in the lower field beneath the cipher. The smooth, unadorned field surrounding the device gives the design a clean, formal character consistent with a presentation or pattern strike.
