Obverse description Central device depicts a Sri Lankan elephant walking left in profile, rendered in bold relief upon a flat ground line. The elephant is portrayed naturalistically with trunk lowered and tail raised. The arc legend CEYLON · GOV · curves along the upper periphery within a raised border, while the date 1815 appears in large numerals below the ground line in the lower field.

Reverse description The reverse bears a counterstamped design consisting of the letters F, A, N, A, M arranged cardinally around a central device — an elephant motif counterstamped within a circular incuse punch — with the letters positioned at the top, left, right, and bottom of the central punch respectively, and a stop below the final letter. The overall composition reflects the denomination designation FANAM applied by counterstamp to the prepared copper flan.
