The 1/12 Anna was among the last bronze fractions struck for British India before the Second World War forced significant changes to coinage policy and metal allocation. By 1940, bronze issues were suspended as copper supplies were redirected toward the war effort, making the 1938–1939 run a short closing chapter for the denomination under George VI.
