Obverse description Central round hole surrounded by a raised ring, above which appears a crown; the denomination legend encircles the hole in both English and Arabic script. The Latin legend reads around the upper and lower periphery, with the Arabic equivalent positioned beneath the hole. The overall design is plain and functional, with the inscriptions rendered in raised relief against a flat field, bordered by a beaded rim.

Reverse description A large six-pointed star (hexagram) dominates the field, its two interlocking triangles enclosing the central round hole. The issuer's name BRITISH WEST AFRICA is inscribed in the outer field, distributed around the periphery following the coin's curvature. The date appears at the bottom of the coin, flanked by two raised dots, set within the lower points of the hexagram. The entire design is enclosed by a beaded border, and the composition is boldly struck in high relief.
