Obverse description The obverse bears the Mexican national coat of arms in high relief at centre, depicting a Mexican golden eagle perched upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rock in a lake, clutching a serpent in its beak and talons. The design is rendered in detailed sculptural style, with the eagle's wings partially spread. A wreath of oak and laurel branches, tied at the base, frames the lower portion of the central device. The curved legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS runs along the upper periphery in Latin characters, bounded by a beaded border.
