Obverse description Central design features the royal arms of France — an oval escutcheon charged with three fleurs-de-lis — surmounted by a royal crown and flanked on either side by laurel and palm branches crossing at the base. The shield is rendered in fine relief against a granular field. A circular legend runs along the periphery within a beaded border, reading the date 1759 and the devotional Latin inscription SIT NOMEN DOMINI BENEDICTUM ('Blessed be the name of the Lord'), separated by a floral ornament.
