Reverse description The central device depicts a highly detailed relief reproduction of the world's first adhesive postage stamp, the 1840 Great Britain Penny Black, rendered within a rectangular stamp frame with engine-turned lattice side panels. Within the stamp vignette, a young Queen Victoria is shown in left-facing profile with a diademed and draped bust, surmounted by the word 'POSTAGE' at the top of the stamp and flanked by ornamental corner rosettes. The stamp inscription 'ONE PENNY' appears at the foot of the vignette, with plate control letters 'E' and 'F' at the lower corners. The denomination '1/10' is engraved below the stamp frame, with 'CROWN' inscribed along the lower exergue. The circular legend 'PENNY BLACK' appears to the left and '150th ANNIVERSARY' to the right of the stamp device.
