The Isle of Man's cat coin program, running since 1988, became one of the more commercially successful bullion series of its era precisely because the reverse design changed annually — a deliberate marketing decision by Pobjoy Mint that kept collector demand cycling year after year. The Bengal was a relatively recent breed in 2002, having received formal TICA recognition only in 1986 after Jean Mill's decades of crossbreeding domestic cats with Asian leopard cats.
The platinum tenth-crown format mirrors the fractional bullion structure Pobjoy used across gold and silver simultaneously, with platinum issues typically commanding the smallest mintages of the three metals.
