| Reverse description | The denomination and fineness specifications are inscribed in five lines within the central field, reading '1 / 10 / BOLIVIANO / 50. Gs / 9. Ds. FINO', all enclosed within a wreath of laurel and oak branches tied with a ribbon at the base. Bolivia's decimal coinage reform of 1863 replaced the old real system, and these small silver divisions were among the first issues to carry the new boliviano denominations. The timing was awkward — the country was in chronic fiscal stress, silver from the Potosí mines was increasingly being exported rather than coined, and the new decimal fractions saw limited circulation in the altiplano, where barter and commodity exchange still dominated rural transactions.
