Obverse description Printed in blue on a pale green guilloche underprint, the obverse carries the bold denomination '1,05 MARK GOLD = 1/4 Dollar' at centre, flanked by ornate letterpress borders with rosette corner medallions bearing the value '1,05'. The heading 'NOTGELD' appears in a hatched panel at top, with a Bavarian lion vignette in the upper right corner medallion and a city arms device at lower left. The note bears the issuing authority legend 'DER STADT ERLANGEN' in a decorative banner at foot, with a vertical serial number panel at right reading the note number, the issue date 'ERLANGEN, den 9. November 1923', and two manuscript signatures above the printed title 'Stadtrat: Dr. Klippel.'
