Issued by the regional treasury in Palembang during the Indonesian National Revolution, this note belongs to the chaotic monetary period following Japan's defeat when Dutch forces were attempting to reassert control and the Republic of Indonesia was fighting to hold territory. Regional treasuries across Sumatra issued their own emergency currency during this period because central authority was fractured and Japanese-occupation money was still circulating by necessity — hence the "Djepang" denomination referencing the Japanese rupiah unit.
Locally printed under wartime conditions, quality control was inconsistent across the series.
