Aachen's Chamber of Commerce issued this one-million mark note during the hyperinflationary summer of 1923, when the Reichsbank's printing infrastructure was so overwhelmed that regional chambers, municipalities, and private firms were effectively deputized to produce emergency currency — Notgeld — just to keep wages payable and commerce moving. The red color distinguishes this from earlier Handelskammer Aachen issues in the same denomination, suggesting a second print run as the inflation outpaced existing stocks.

Aug. Heinrigs was a local Aachen printer, not a specialist security firm. Three signatures — Pastor, Schifffers, and Böhmer — were standard for Chamber issues of this period, lending institutional authority to what was, legally, private paper.
