Lörrach sits directly on the Swiss and French borders, which made its hyperinflation notgeld something of an oddity — a city whose residents could, in theory, cross a bridge and buy bread with stable francs while their municipal million-mark notes lost value by the hour. This note was printed locally by Wülferts, a commercial trade printer, not a specialist banknote firm. The quality reflects that: these were functional emergency instruments produced under time pressure.
The official stamp is the primary security feature — rubber or metal die applied at point of issue, the kind of authentication that would have been trivially forgeable but adequate for a crisis measured in weeks, not years.
