Obverse description The obverse is divided into two distinct vertical panels. The left panel, printed on a cream ground, carries the provincial arms of Schleswig-Holstein — a quartered shield combining the nettle-leaf of Holstein and the two lions of Schleswig — beneath the Gothic-script legend 'Provinz Schleswig-Holstein', with a serial number and letter suffix below. A central decorative border of alternating red and blue stylised figures separates the left panel from the main yellow-ochre field, which bears the large red denomination numeral '1 000 000 Mk' in display lettering, followed by the payment obligation text in black Gothic script and a validity clause dated Kiel, 1. Sept. 1923. The issuing authorities are named in red Gothic script at the foot, above three manuscript signatures.

Reverse description The reverse is dominated by a large central vignette in a tricolour letterpress design of red, blue, and olive-green, enclosed within a red ruled frame with a blue and yellow geometric triangle border. The central composition presents two standing figures in traditional regional costume rendered in a bold woodcut-inspired style, flanked by four corner vignettes depicting rural and historical scenes with figures and architectural elements; a Low German motto runs horizontally across the mid-field. To the right of the main vignette, on an unprinted cream stub, the denomination 'Eine Million Mk' is printed in black Gothic script, with the printer's imprint 'Hartung & Co. Hamburg' at the foot of the vignette.
