The Republic of Serbian Krajina was an unrecognized breakaway state carved out of Croatian territory during the Yugoslav wars, and its banknotes were produced in Belgrade — a detail that says everything about where real authority over the entity actually resided. By the time this one-million dinar note was issued in 1993, Yugoslav hyperinflation had already consumed the currency's lower denominations entirely; the million-dinar face value was not an extraordinary sum but a practical necessity.
The print run of just over twelve million places this among the more available Krajina issues, though the state itself ceased to exist in August 1995 when Croatia's Operation Storm overran the territory in under four days.
